• Dr. Rajendra Singh (Rainman & Water Catcher) at Concord Proxima, Baner
  • Dr. Rajendra Singh is a well known water conservationist from Alwar, Rajasthan in India. He won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for community leadership in 2001 for his pioneering work in water management. As founder and general secretary of an NGO called Tarun Bharat Sangh (TBS) since 1985 he has built more than 4,500 earthen check dams to collect rainwater in about 850 villages in 11 districts in the State. The TBS has helped revive five rivers that had gone dry. The award is not only recognition of his conservation efforts but also an acceptance of the traditional wisdom of the people of rural Rajasthan.

Dr. Singh met residents of Concord Proxima who have worked hard to revive the water body that flows by the project and make lush green the area demarcated Nala Garden. On Aug 01. 2009 residents along with their children planted 100 saplings along the water body and in the nala garden. Dr. Singh visited the site on this occasion and lauded the efforts of the residents. He renamed the water body ‘Devnadi’ and guided the efforts of the residents. Each child planted a tree and is committed to taking care of that tree. On Aug 1, 2010, the first anniversary of Dr. Singh’s visit the residents planted few more hundred trees, and in doing so have made significant progress in making the garden lush and green
